How to turn one podcast episode into a month of clips

A long conversation holds dozens of short moments. Here's the process we use to find them, cut them and publish them without burning out.

Key takeaways

  • Mark clip-worthy moments while you record, or straight after.
  • Each clip should make one point and make sense on its own.
  • Reframe for vertical and caption every word.
  • Batch the work: one episode, one editing session, a month of posts.

Recording the episode is the hard part. The conversation is already full of short, shareable moments; most shows just never cut them out. One hour of good conversation can usually fill a month of Reels, Shorts and TikToks.

Step 1: Find the moments

Watch the episode or read the transcript and flag anything that works without context. We look for moments between 20 and 60 seconds long.

  • Strong opinions and disagreements
  • A story with a clear before and after
  • Specific, practical advice
  • A line people will want to quote

Step 2: Make each clip stand alone

Viewers on social have never heard your show. Cut the setup that only makes sense in the full episode, and open on the most interesting line, not the question that led to it.

Step 3: Reframe, caption and polish

  • Reframe to 9:16 and keep the speaker's face in the top two thirds.
  • Switch camera angles on each new point to keep the eye moving.
  • Add word-by-word captions; many people watch without sound.
  • Clean the audio and level both voices so nobody is too quiet.

Step 4: Publish on a schedule

Spread the clips across the weeks until your next episode. Each one should point back to the full conversation, so short-form viewers become long-form listeners.
